Running the VM appliance. 1: I ran the update to get to version 1.10 (I had an older image). Since then, zensyslog and zentrap won't stay running. The zensyslog logs gave a mysql error, but its somewhat old (prior to a reboot). Now it just logs that its starting. No messages why it stops. Same for zentrap. I ran the upgrade as root (by mistake it turns out). I was able to get most things running again by changing some perms back to zenoss, but thinking I must have missed something.
2: 95th% graphing - I tried adding the custom graphing info in this article: http://lists.zenoss.org/pipermail/zenoss-users/2006/001939.html to one of my router interfaces and now I don't get a graph at all. I'm not sure where to go from there. Anyone else have 95th% graphs working and willing to share info? 3: Is there any way to inherit RRDTemplates? For example, I have a mix of Supermicro and non-supermicro servers. The supermicro servers can have hardware monitored via Supero Doctor's SNMP plugin (which, for some silly reason, the OIDS change based on the model, making standardizing the templates difficult). Fan speeds, temps, etc. Of those servers, some might be Windows running IIS, some running SQL server with SNMP Informants Advanced/SQL packs, and some might be running Linux. Obviously, I can create enough subclasses to cover everything (or use local copies), but it would be so much nicer to be able to separate the templates out into functionality and then attach them to the device. Also makes rolling out changes to the graphs a lot easier. 4: This is a suggestion, not a question - It took me a while, and a lot of research, to figure out that the RRDTemplates had to be named certain things (like Device). The docs reference naming them after the meta_type, but doesn't list the meta_types or examples. Now that I know, the docs make sense. But before I knew (while I was probably being thick-headed), I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out why RRDTemplates underneath the subclass the device was in wasn't graphing anything. Based on finding my exact issue in the mail archives, I'm not the only one. Thanks for any help on these!
