Remember, the ZenWin services need to run under those same credentials.

I have been monitoring that thread for some time, but I am still not clear
as to the permissions that are needed and where they are to be applied. I
have tried creating local accounts on the member servers using the same
username/password as specified in Zenoss but this does not seem to work.

I will look over the thread again. Maybe I'm missing the obvious [wouldn't
be the first time :-)].

I have been trying to document my install using the vm appliance, but I've
not completed it yet.

In the mean time I would suggest looking in the forum for the thread "Major
WMI issues". I explained much of what I went through to get zenwin
installed and working in my environment.

Has a definitive guide been written that explains the installation process
for ZenWin? I am currently using the Zenoss VMware appliance and have ZenWin
services installed on the same server as the VMA. I am able to pull service
information from the Zenoss machine and my DC, but not from any other domain
member servers.

I really would like to be able to gather additional information from all my
windows boxes without installing additional agents. If could get ZenWin to
work I think this would satisfy my needs (for now).

Thanks in advance.

You SHOULD need it for all Windows boxes to get windows service info, though
I've seen similar behavior on occasion. You definitely need it for XP/2K3.

I do not have zenwin installed. I do not have it installed on my 2k server
either but it seems to be working there. Do I need it for XP or
2k3 servers?

You do have a ZenWin system running, that is either XP or 2K3, right?

Ok one thing I forgot to mention is the only server that is displaying
winservice is windows 2k. The others are 2003 and xp. I am not sure how to
verify WMI errors. I did install WMI on my 2003 server earlier today to see
if that fixed the issue but has not of yet.

There are two things to check straight off.

1 - Are the other service in the /servers/windows device class.

2- Are you getting WMI connect errors?

Can anyone tell me why only 1 server shows a section called WinService under
devices? We have 1 server at our office that I am monitoring and the others
are at a hosting facility. The only server that shows WinService is our
server here in the office.

Thanks

Bill
