#First question

Hey everyone, first off, I'm really new to zenoss and snmp but I think
I've gotten at least things on the low-level working.

>From there, I've added a few machines just to try and see how zenoss
works. I'm having problems with a couple of things and I haven't managed to
find any information on the docs/wiki/here.

Basically, when using autodiscovery, it doesn't look like the database is
fully populated with information about the system. For example, I click no
the hardware tab for a device and see nothing. Doing an snmpwalk on that
machine, I do see things printed, it looks as though its via a
"HOST-RESOURCES-MIB"

Are there particular MIBs I must have in order to work with zenoss? Does
anyone know where I can find them? Just to give a clue of what i'm talking
about, the prnit out from snmpwalk looks like:

HOST-RESOURCES-MIB::hrDeviceType.1027 = OID:
HOST-RESOURCES-TYPES::hrDeviceNetwork
HOST-RESOURCES-MIB::hrDeviceType.3072 = OID:
HOST-RESOURCES-TYPES::hrDeviceCoprocessor
HOST-RESOURCES-MIB::hrDeviceDescr.768 = STRING: GenuineIntel: Intel(R)
Xeon(TM) MV CPU 3.20GHz
HOST-RESOURCES-MIB::hrDeviceDescr.769 = STRING: GenuineIntel: Intel(R)
Xeon(TM) MV CPU 3.20GHz

Also, these machines are debian.

Is the device under the /Devices/Server/Linux tree? The HOST-RESOURCES
values will only be read on device classes under /Server.

### A second question
Since i'm an snmp newbie, it is generally better to use v2c instead of
v1? It looks like zenoss defaults to v1 in the zProperties of the device,
is there a good reason for sticking with the old version?

it all depends on your particular network environment(s). v2 is not
recommended, due to numerous security issues. v1 is fine for simple needs
where you don't need high security, otherwise go with v3.

### A third

What's the MIBS tab in zenoss for? I don't see anything in the manual

There's a blurb somewhere in one of the docs ... somewhere. At the moment,
MIBs uploaded into Zenoss are only used for traps, not for device parsing.

Hope this helps!

Thanks to anyone that can help!
