Hi Kerneld and Snakeyes,
As part of our optimization work, we are moving to net-snmp to do our
basic SNMP messaging. net-snmp supports SNMPv3, so we have taken a small
step towards SNMPv3 support.
On a related note, we are making several small changes to support
point-to-point VPNs or tunnel configurations. You would be able to
place a collector at a remote site and access it over a small number of
tunneled (or VPN firewalled) connections. It's possible Zenoss would
even be able to manage those connections for you.

You could also use ssh to tunnel the traffic.
I did think of using ssh tunnel but didn't see much benefit of using ssh instead of stunnel other than not having to install another service.

It might be easier to setup a VPN between your zenoss box and your target network.
This sounds like easier course but I would want the vpn locked down to a port
(I don't know a lot about VPN's, but my concern is how VPN might be used to
bypass router's acl's).

Can you share a little bit more about your network layout(without compromising
your sensitive security of course)
Ok, I'm going to be abit general here. There will be about 3-4 of subnets that
zenoss will be monitoring with about 5 servers per each, of which the actual
zenoss machine/server will be sitting in one monitoring the machines in that
subnet as well.
