I know how you feel, it is usually a bad idea but sometimes I just need things
to cooperate.
I've tried both Python 2.3.6 and 2.4 separately. They both do the same thing -
I get past my previous hangup (mkzopeinstance.py not found) but now I get this
at the tail end of install.sh output:
----------
configuring winexe-install
/usr/local/zenoss/current/etc/zope.conf converted
Starting Zope Object Database
. daemon process started, pid=28098
Loading initial Zenoss objects into the Zeo database
(this can take a few minutes)
unable to create the initial Zenoss object database
----------
And if I look at the tail of zenbuild.log I see this:
----------
loading stored procedures
events database created and loaded
Traceback (most recent call last):

ImportError: /usr/local/zenoss/current/lib/python/Acquisition/_Acquisition.so:

----------
Anyone have ideas with this? I've got some new phrases to throw into google
and will give that a shot. Hopefully I've almost got it.
