Well, not exactly. > > but you'll probably end up finding problems that you > would have never thought to look for with Nagios. > Yes, I'll take this as a plus for zenoss ... but still missing groups/systems purpose with monitor. In my opinion it's a must for lager installations monitoring. Currently I'm able to define Service and Processes groups ... it would be nice to connect them to device class, system or group. I'm operating in a production site monitoring over 300 linux servers. Currently using nagios for status monitoring and heavily modified remstats for performance monitor. The source for configuration is a LDAP database. Everything gets generated according to the membership in System or Application groups. I was wondering if there's opensource all-in-one system monitor based mostly on snmp when I found zenoss. But I can't currently imagine the way for adding/discovering device and then checking if its monitoring everything it should. > > After all, if you're monitoring a "mysql-server" and it happens to > also be running Apache for something like phpmyadmin (just an > example,) wouldn't it be nice to know that Apache was no longer > running even though you hadn't thought to monitor it? > Well the machine is a member of both mysql-server and apache-frontend groups than. I'll take the discovery as a plus - for finding things it shouldn't be running on target devices. Is there any examples of deploying zenoss in larger environments?
