Is this SNMP Informant part of Zenoss??
Where does one find/get/install it??
IMO I should not have to install anything to my servers to make Zenoss work.
Why do I need this when other similar software *can* obtain this information
without the SNMP Informant??

Tom,

Valid questions for sure. SNMP Informant is not part of Zenoss, but it
is a highly recommend and freely available
(http://www.snmp-informant.com/) component. All it does it provide an
extension to the SNMP agent built into Windows so it is very
lightweight.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Zenoss only defaults to using
the Informant extensions for monitor windows servers because it does
get you a couple of things the default Windows MIB is missing. Notably
paging and hard disk performance. Any products that get these metrics
are either using an agent or WMI.

If you'd really rather not use the Informant extensions and don't care
to have paging or disk performance monitored, you could put together a
performance template using the admin guide and the host resources MIB.

Hope this of help to you.
