you could always have a look at "Peep (The Network Auralizer)". creates
background noise based on the state of your network, if something goes wrong,
the background noise changes... [no affiliation and no use for this...]

or as someone else just suggested, use an event command to play a sound. you can
probably set it up to play a sound remotely as well.
