Hello,

Great news that you are trying out Zenoss.

Sorry you are having some struggles...

Zenoss Core is the main monitoring platform. Zenwin is a middleware piece (in
1.1.x) that runs on a windows (XP) system to proxy WMI information between
Zenoss Core and the monitored windows machines.

Through WMI, Zenoss gains access to Windows Event Log(s) as well as access to
running services. In the upcoming 2.0 release, Zenwin is embedded in Zenoss
Core so there is no need to install a separate component to monitor using WMI.

Other than using the VMWare Image, the easiest way to install Zenoss Core is to
build a Fedora 5or6 or Centos 4or5 server, install the dependencies (from the
dependencies RPM), then install Zenoss Core using the RPM. Both are available
at www.zenoss.com downloads.

If you can get the VMWare Player installed, you should have no problem getting
the Zenoss VMWare Image to run and start your testing. There are good tips for
getting the VMWare Player running at www.vmware.com.

Good luck and let us know how things go.
