Hi benkhart, I was wondering if you were able to fix this problem. I'm having the same issue, with the exact same errors.
I was able to connect to mysql server using the zenoss username and pass and I can see the events db. If I start manually the zenstatus it does not send any error but when you check the status it says it is stopped. Also the zenstatus.log has no further entry since that one you posted.
