I submitted a ticket about this for the vmware image, as I've had the same issue. What I've seen is if the first device on the network is not SNMP manageable, zendisc gives up and reports that nothing has been seen. IMO, the key to this is noticing that zendisc reports that 0 IP addresses have been found even though nmap shows that there are addresses.
