We are using Zenoss to monitor everything you mention. No, you don't have
to install anything on the Windows machines. Just enable SNMP and install
SNMP-Informant if you want CPU/memory performance. You can also monitor
Windows via WMI.

Linux just works (if SNMP is configured) and for Sun, we use net-snmp as a
sub-agent for the Solaris snmp agent in order to handle the Host-Resources
MIB (instructions on the net-snmp website).

You're correct, some type of CDP discovery would be cool. Maybe in the
future :-)

Subject: [zenoss-users] Evaluating Zenoss and have some small questions
about it.

Hi,

Here at work we are looking for a new monitoring system.
A few of the ones we are looking at for the moment are OpenView, MOM,
Zenoss, Hyperic.

Today we are using a combination of Netdisco / Nagios.
But we want one gui for "everything".

So before inventing the wheel again I am wondering if someone are using
Zenoss to monitor Linux / Sun / Windows and Cisco equipment.

Have anyone here looked at nedi @ http://www.nedi.ch/doku.php
It would be great to have something like this incorporated into Zenoss :)

Is the agent for windows servers required to have python installed on them?

By the looks of it Zenoss seems to be a great program! It will be really
interesting to try it out more.
