We use postfix with aliases for our SMS gateway to aggregate our alerts.
I keep the alerting rules within the "admin" account. I create an "email" alerts tagged for specific groups of servers, and an identical (or nearly identical, depending on what we want alerting about.) rule. then in our /etc/aliases file for postfix we have stacked aliases. Doing it this way, we add & remove people from the groups listed in /etc/aliases when we want to add or subtract them from the notification group, and we don't have to mess about with adding & subtracting all kinds of notification rules. It works well. --Todd oliverm wrote:
Hi We currently use Hyperic to monitor a range of client boxes. While its a great system, the open source feature lacks certain things like group alerts etc, and adding same 10 alerts to 20 servers is both time consuming and a pain in the a*** Can Zenoss help us setup alerting any quicker ? Also, does Zenoss use agents so that we can cross firewalls etc? If so, do the agents support actions on alerts like running scripts rather than just emailing people ?
