Just as an FYI, you do not need SNPP support from your mobile phone provider to use sendpage.
Infact... sendpage IS an SNPP server, not an SNPP client. The workflow for zenoss using SNPP is: 1. Zenoss generates alert 2. contact SNPP server with message and pager id (in this case, our SNPP server is sendpage) 3.sendpage then talks to a dialup modem connected to the machine running sendpage which dials into your mobile phone / paging carriers network and transmits the message directly to their network using the TAP protocol The benefit of this method is that it does not require any network resources to send the pages to your support people. So say for instance... the switch your zenoss server is connected to... if you are using an email2page system, you will never recieve pages because your zenoss machine has no network connectivity. Using the zenoss -> SNPP (sendpage) -> dialup modem method... you will still get your pages. The hardest part about this system is finding the TAP dialup numbers for your mobile provider... but if you dig around on google you can normally find them. Or if you have real paging options from your carrier, it shouldn;t be too difficult to get it from them directly. Since TAP is a little specialized, it can be pretty hard getting the information out of the regular support staff at cell carriers because they have no idea what you are talking about. ------------------------ Matt Watson -------------------- m2f -------------------- Read this topic online here: http://community.zenoss.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=10328#10328 -------------------- m2f -------------------- _______________________________________________ zenoss-users mailing list [email protected] http://lists.zenoss.org/mailman/listinfo/zenoss-users
