Zenoss does have this type of parent-child setup. It uses the modeled routes to automatically build a layer 3 topology of your network so that it can suppress events behind downed network gear.
All of those "not in topology" warnings are indicating that Zenoss wasn't able to build the full topology out to the mentioned device.
