What you need to do is clear the heartbeats on zenoss. On the left hand menu at the bottom click on Event Manager, then click on the arrow and select clear heartbeats. This will stop it from pinging devices that no longer exist. I did this after I changed the hostname for Zenoss so it wasn't saying localhost.localdomain which was driving me up the wall. After clearing the heartbeats and restarting the snmp agent, it's been running like a champ now.
