There shouldn't really be a need to reinstall Zenoss, this very much sounds 
like a MySQL issue so you should concentrate on that. Try to play with the 
--pid-file option of MySQL, most likely it will be used in the startup script 
of MySQL (probably something like /etc/init.d/mysql).
