It would be nice if zenoss would abstract ALL this information through
some sort of XML process... XML-RPC maybe

Zenoss uses mysql for events, rrdtool for the perf data, and ZODB
(object database) for other data, I believe. Depending on what info
you're looking for you'll have to tap one of those sources.
