I have the same issue.  With my switch (a FS726T) I can name the ports
within the switch, but the Netgear SNMP implementation doesn't reflect
this.  I've reported this to Netgear technical support, but they can't be
bothered to do anything about it.

As my main issue was with alerts, what I ended up doing was adding a hard
coded transformation in zenoss to name the port based on the snmp index.
