Forwarding this back to the list, as I didn't see it come back to me
as expected. I've edited it to include another question as well.

----------

All,

I'm working on a FreeBSD install, and found this guide:

     http://www.zenoss.com/community/docs/install-guides/install-on-freebsd-6.2/

but I have a couple of questions regarding it:

1) In step 2, what is the purpose of adding a proc FS to fstab?

2) In step 5, there's a directive to perform the following substep:

    # cp /usr/local/share/snmp/snmp.conf.example \
         /usr/local/etc/snmp/snmpd.conf

I don't see /usr/local/share/snmp/snmp.conf.example. I do see files
that have similar names:

     /usr/local/share/snmp/snmpd.conf.example
     /usr/share/examples/etc/snmpd.config
     /etc/snmp.config

The last two seem to be identical (diff doesn't produce anything), and
they may be part of the base OS install. Is

     /usr/local/share/snmp/snmpd.conf.example

really the correct file? I assume so - however, that leads to the next question:

3) Also in step 5 is this statement:

Change "localhost" to be "default", "COMMUNITY" to be "public".

This is ambiguous - I can't quite figure out which line(s) of (most
likely) /usr/local/share/snmp/snmpd.conf.example I should edit to make
this happen. Anyone have a pointer on this?

4) In step 6, there's a line recommended for /etc/rc.conf:

     syslog_enable="NO"

Why? I like syslog. :)

5) The install wants autoconf259 - that no longer seems to be in
ports. Will a later version work?

This is as far as I've gotten. Answers or even subtle hints much appreciated.

Kurt
