Hi everyone, I am having some trouble making page/SMS alerts work. I'm not sure if this is a user-error or a bug, so I thought that I would start here. Any advice that anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.
In order to isolate the problem, I have configured a single server (state: Production) upon which I am monitoring the MySQL TCP port. Stopping MySQL on this (non-production) test machine generates a "Critical" level alert. I have configured the user "/ZenUsers/pat" with both an email address and a pager number. I have created a group "/ZenUsers/Test Group" of which the user "pat" is a member. The user "pat" has no alerting rules configured. The group "Test Group" has two alerting rules configured that are identical in all respects except for the page/email parameter. I have not specified an optional address within the "Test Group" alerting rules. When an alert occurs, an email is sent to the user "pat"; however, no page is received. The zenaction.log shows the following: Code: WARNING zen.ZenActions: failed to page Test Group on rule SMS Alert: Unspecified address. Removing the email rule (leaving only the SMS rule) has no effect (other than the fact that alert emails are no longer dispatched). Pages are sent successfully when an identical alerting rule is directly attached to the user (rather than the group of which the user is a member). I am running with the following versions: Code: Zenoss Zenoss 2.1.2 OS Linux (x86_64) 2.6.23 Zope Zope 2.8.8 Python Python 2.4.4 Database MySQL 5.0.51 (Ver 5.0.51) RRD RRDtool 1.2.23 Twisted Twisted 2.5.0 SNMP PySNMP 3.4.3 Twisted SNMP TwistedSNMP 0.3.13 NetSnmp NetSnmp 5.4.1 If anyone has any advice in debugging this further (or if this is a known bug), I would love to hear from them. I am reluctant to dig around in the code as this is currently a production monitoring server that we are adding paging in to.
