I believe the IP service monitoring just checks to see if the port is
open on the server. The HTTP zenpack or others may well do more, but for
instance, you'd have to create a command data source to telnet in on
port 110 and parse the response.

Hello,
We are evaluating ZenOss and I am wondering how the IPService monitoring works.
If we monitor port 110/pop for example, does ZenOss just check that the port
is open on the server being monitored or does it actually send a pop command
and check for a valid response?
TIA
