So after having a couple outages for an internal firewall that stops passing
traffic I've noticed a gap in the ways we can view data from Zenoss.

Basically if there is a bunch of events that only last a few seconds then get
cleared out its hard to see that they even happened. The only way to know you
had an outage is to check your email alerts or try to check the history tab for
a device which might have been included in the outage.

Sometimes we have small outages for only a few devices behind a failing gateway
that doesnt last very long. The ping down events clear out and we are left not
knowing the outage happened. The only available ways to see that stuff requires
an active search after someone else let us know our stuff was down.

This is unacceptable for a monitoring solution. There is a gap in how Zenoss
reports outages that is not easy to glance at like other status pages. We
should know something cleared without trying to find it. It should pop out
somewhere.

The best workaround I found was to view history for /Events but with as many
devices as we have that has a few hundred thousand entries even for the past
day or two. Its so large that its annoying trying to scroll that list for any
useful data. I understand how to clear out the history but we dont want to lose
it. We just need a better way to view/utilize it. Besides manually searching
for an outage is pointless if we didnt know to search.

I would like to make a feature request for a dashboard applet that shows
recently cleared events that is user configurable for a few areas.

Filter recently cleared events by:
Device Group Systems EventClass Time etc.

So we could put important devices in the "Essential Device Group" then see only
/Status/Ping events that cleared for them in the last 10min/30min/hour/day etc.
It would have the user configurable refresh as well.

Something like this is really needed to close the information gap.
