Alrighty, all u Zenoss warriors out there... with the assistance of the ZenMaster (Chet) turns out, you could add devices through a programmatic way via zendmd as the zenoss user and avoid any GUI or XML-RPC hassles... if you take a look at the online doc, manage_createDevice() utilizes createInstance(), which essentially does the creation of a device in dmd (Zope)...
Within that method, there is check for the IP and if the device exists; avoiding that method and calling createInstance() urself resolves the issue...
