I haven't found a way to do this - most NMS systems have a way to indicate parent/child relationships, so I imagine I either haven't found it, or it's a feature that's planned at some point. Imagine monitoring a multiport switch that has multiple devices on it - when the switch huccups, you get *hundreds* of alerts pour in. Not ideal, but not really a deal-braeker so far, either. At least those hundreds of emails tend to get attention quickly :)
