The directory $ZENHOME/bin needs to be in your PATH, and the best way to make sure it is there is to log on as the 'zenoss' user. Always use the 'zenoss' user to do anything with Zenoss because it sets up the environment correctly.
Also, if you are in the $ZENHOME/bin directory and are trying to execute files directly from the directory you will have to add a './' to the beginning, like './zenmodeler'. Hope this helps.
