the mibs are primarily used to translate the snmp traps to sensible information.
I always load the mib into some mibbrowser (e.g. iReasoning Mib Browser) and search for interesting oids. I then create a new template and put the interesting oids in there. Then you apply the template to the appropriate device. You can see the graphs in the perf tab.
