I'm assuming that the Zenoss server will have that enabled by default.
(note, my experience is with the free Core product on CentOS5.1)You
might have to edit snmpd.conf :
easy, insecure would be to have just
rocommunity public
To delete a device, go to device list:
Check the box to the left of the device whatever
Click on the dropdown arrow to the left of the Device List header in
blue, select delete devices.
Likewise, in Event Manger, you'll use the dropdown to select Clear All
Heartbeats.
The Admin Guide is invaluable for all this background knowledge however.

Thanks James! Really appreciate the quick reply. As I get better I'll be
certain to contribute to the forums.
I edited /etc/hosts as you described and restarted eth0.
[EMAIL PROTECTED] etc]# more hosts
# Do not remove the following line, or various programs
# that require network functionality will fail.
127.0.0.1 episd32.episd.org
Interestingly, I can still ping localhost from the Zenoss server:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] etc]# ping localhost
PING localhost.episd.org (127.0.0.1) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from episd32.episd.org (127.0.0.1): icmp_seq=0 ttl=64 time=0.017 ms
Now, I have really newbie question - I can't figure out how to delete device
"localhost" in Zenoss...
I can see it when I click on Device List- it is still complaining "127.0.0.1 sendto error Host localhost and episd32.episd.org are both using ip" - (the most recent event is 30 seconds ago). But, there does not seem to be an option for deleting it. I can also see it under Classes, Devices as /Devices /Server/Linux/localhost; it shows up as
* Device: localhost
* IP: 127.0.0.1
* Status: Down
Help ...
Steve
(PS) Is there an easy way to turn on SNMP for the Zenoss server so that I can experiment with monitoring itself?
