I kind of figured MySQL might be part of it on the availability report.  The
tuning information would probably be good to put in the admin manual as
there have been quite a few entries in the user's list of poor performance.

I'll give it a try and see what happens.

I have to say.. this question is very ironic. The availability report  
barely touches the ZODB at all. MySQL is doing all of the work to  
generate this report. If it runs slowly you need to tune your MySQL  
database as ZODB isn't the bottleneck.
