I think that guide may be ... well sort of wrong. For instance, on my
EL5 install, /usr/local/zenoss ... doesn't exist. It's (via the RPM) in
/opt/zenoss ...
Anyway, I don't think I'd go out and modify a performance template
myself, I'd make my own. At least, that's what I've been doing.

I think the first example is about the same with check http, but seems a
little more up to date.
You might also want to look at:

for making your own template, and how to bind it to a device/class.
Don't forget to restart zencommand after storing the command. Oh, and
check the events of the device you've bound it to - it may complain
about stuff there. Also, try running zencommand service like in the
thread, that dumps useful stuff to the log! rather than skipping by on
the console.
