Yes, I've done it and it works. You need to be running a version of Zenoss where the zentrap uses zenhub to do communications. I think 2.1.3 or greater.
Then you just set the config file with the zenhub location just like with the performance monitoring daemons, and presto it works. The only issues that I've discovered with this method is that it seems events are still processed on the main system, so you're not really offloading work (of course I could be wrong). Also, if you load new mibs you have to restart the zentrap daemons on the remote system for the OID translation to work.
