I went into the services -> IP service -> privileged section and marked a few of the services 'True' for being monitored (notably snmp being one of them).
I had thought that this meant when modeling a device, it would flag that service as running and alert if it failed. This is apparently not the case because while the IP service definitions say it is 'true' for monitoring, the listing of hosts beneath that which display where it has been found all say 'false' for monitoring it.
