I think this is one of the major value adds in the enterprise version,
so I expect someone in the community will have to code it/figure it out
and write it up, I can't imagine Zenoss Inc doing so (they have to have
something to sell I expect).

I am trying to get Zenoss distributive monitoring working and have found little documentation on how to do it. The document located at http://www.zenoss.com/community/docs/howtos/setting-up-multiple-zenperfsnmp-collectors-across-different-hosts worked for Zenoss 1, does not work for 2.X at all - at least I could not get it to work.
The Administration Guide for 2.1.1 mentions status monitors in passing and the guide for 2.2 mentions them, giving the reader a glimpse of how to configure them but does not go into enough detail to make it work. The Zenoss book indicates it can be done, again not enough detail.
One of the reasons why Zenoss was selected as the system monitoring tool is
because of its ability to do distributed monitoring. It worked in 1.X but 2.X
needs more documentation to get it to work.
Many of the forum entries regarding this say the enterprise version can do it
out of the box .. which is cool but does not help a poor sys-admin with no
budget.
