I've got remote Zenoss servers that use LDAP over VPN. Some sites have higher
latency than others, with the highest being 175ms RTT average. My UI became
PAINFULLY slow after I integrated Zenoss with LDAP. I'm using LDAPUserFolder,
LDAPMultiPlugins and python-ldap, per the guide
(http://www.zenoss.com/community/docs/howtos/how-to-authenticate-via-ldap/).

After some research, I found the RAM Cache Manager, in Zope. I'm not sure how
the caching is supposed to work in LDAPMultiPlugins, but I don't really think
it's caching anything without this object. If it is, it's very slow or poorly
implmented.

To fix your UI woes:

under /zport/acl_users in the ZMI

ONE) From the Dropdown Menu in the upper right, add RAM Cache Manager.
TWO) Give it a name. I called it 'AD Cache'
THREE) Click on your new RAM Cache object to configure it
FOUR) Leave the default Properties
FIVE) Click on the 'Associations' tab
SIX) Click locate
SEVEN) Your LDAPMultiPlugins instance (whatever you named it) and userManager
will appear as objects that you can associate with the RAM Cache.
EIGHT) Check both and select 'Save Changes'

You should now have a quick UI again after some things cache.
