Zenoss definitively works and I think it will in time probably kick Nagios,
Zabbix and other Commercial NMS butts.

It does present a lot of problems in every minor release, many are small
details like 2.2 using 32 bit Python instead of 64 bit for a x64 install that
made using LDAP for Active Directory hell. (by the way, the person with the
backpack photo that started this tread contributed to find out the bug ad
fixing it).

He is right, at this point if you want a point and click solution that is going
to work out of the box and you Do Not Have the Time to troubleshoot and check
the forums, stay away from Zenoss in a Production enviroment. I will still have
at least a Virtual Machine in a lab and watch it development. I think everyone
will be pleased with the Install in a year with all the progress they are
achiving.

If you have the time, try it!, compare it with Zabbix, OpsView (nagios), and
Centreon (nagios) and see if this is the Open Source you want. After that
compare it with NetCool, Tenable, OpenView, etc. Maybe it will have a better
TOC or not depending on your needs and available resources.

I think that Opening some Enterprise Features for Core as they did on 2.2.3
will attract some more prospects, it did for me (LDAP/AD). I introduced Zenoss
at work along with Zabbix, OpsView, PandoraFMS and Centreon.

Everybody loves the intuitive navigation, look and features. The only one still
close is Centreon V2 but it is still on Beta. So we decided to implement a
limited try in Production for a real test. Thinking after 6 months if all works
fine get the Enterprise and monitor the whole network.

This desicion instead of going with Nagios was not taken litely since we are
going to lose correlation of availability in OSSIM (Open Source Security
Infraestructure Management) since it only parses Nagios.

So give it a try, use the Forums and decide!

Evangelist: Matt Ray, you look like a escaped crazy guy on that picture, but we
appreciate your active involvement in the forums. LoL
