I have several hosts that use an "on" or "off" alias and set ip address for each state. This is to make it much easier to monitor the devices based on if they are in use. When I try to have Zenoss monitor an aliased host it does not because it sees that another device is using this address. Given that the processess only should be monitored by the online host that is actualy using these processes.
Example mail01.domain 192.168.1.2 mail01.domain 192.168.1.3 mailon.domian 192.168.1.4 mailoff.domain 192.168.1.5 When the mailon host is up smtp sholud be monitored and alterting but I really do not want to be woken up at 3am because the offline mail server does not have SMTP running. Is there a way to get these hosts to be correctly monitored based on the state of its alias? Idealy, I want to monitor the processes only on the online host while monitoring the rest of the systems based on their correct name.
