I suppose this is not a very elegant or easy proposal, but theoretically you could have Zenoss edit the event status/severity on the fly using transforms...
The frustrating part is that you would probably need to apply these transforms to each specific service you need, and tweak it based on maintenance window times or system names or whatever you're looking for.
