I poked around a little more into this problem and it seems to be a issue with their being multiple versions of zope.interface.adapter in the python search path. In my install there was a different version in :/usr/local/zenoss/python/lib/python2.4/site-packages/zope.interface-3.3.0-py2.4-linux-i686.egg/ I moved this directory to some place outside the path, restarted zope and the problem went away. The interesting thing is that the version of the file I moved seems to be newer than the one that Five was happy using. Maybe some of the development types could take a look at this.
