maybe you should zensyslog restart -v 10 --logorig and watch /log/origsyslog.log and see if its being hammered by incoming syslog messages, maybe you are getting alot and the system is working hard to process them. Some people prefilter the syslog messages using syslog-ng or something like that, so Zenoss doesnt have to do all the work
