This really sounds like a bug to me - I'd open a ticket... I had a 
similar problem with ZenProcess just stopping monitoring occasionally. I 
enabled watchdog(for ZenProcess), and it seems to be fine now. Which is 
weird as I haven't noticed it being restarted by watchdog... it just 
seems to be behaving now that it's being watched ...????

Maybe that would help, even if the daemon isn't dying.
