Greetings from Zenoss,
As you may be aware, the next release of Zenoss "Blue Crab" is
supposed to improve our SSH monitoring and modeling without using the
Zenoss plugins. The goal is to provide an SSH-based monitoring and
modeling comparable to the current SNMP options. While this code is
still being worked on, we would like to enlist the Zenoss Community's
assistance in providing test data for our parsing code. We would also
like to solicit your suggestions for what the best techniques on your
platforms for collecting the following information:
- input and output packet counts on all interfaces
- input and output byte counts on all interfaces
- input and output error rates on all interfaces
- free memory information
- CPU load averages at 1, 5 and 10 minute ranges
- file system types and usage
- route information
- process PID, memory usage, CPU time, and full command
- TCP listen ports
We will be providing documentation, an example ZenPack and testing
tools eventually (in Blue Crab or sooner), so creating your own
solutions should be relatively straightforward. The assumption is
that the Community will have a myriad of different, specialized
solutions and we will deliver the SSH monitoring templates via
Community ZenPacks.
Please download the following script to run against your machines,
sanitize your data and send it to us.
http://dev.zenoss.org/trac/browser/sandboxen/bedwards/parsertest/createtest.sh?format=txt
The script has some commands for gathering up lots of data on OSX and
Linux, we're open to your suggestions for other platforms and fine-
tuning what we have here.
Thanks,
Matt Ray
