Hi

I'm not sure if this is the right thread to mention this but I recently ran
into a situation where being able to monitor route latency would have been
valuable.

We had a site where the users reported very slow web performance (via the site
WAN link) but it was intermittent. The symptom was high latency times, as
reported by traceroute (on the order of 1500-2000ms).

As it turned out, a patch server at a remote site was deploying patches to
computers at the site, saturating the link. If we had a way to monitor latency
between the sites, we could have set up an alert to let us know when the
problem was occurring.

Could fping have helped here?
