The Dev Guide has an introduction to some of the REST methods that are available, but it's not complete. The API has everything, but that's too much. Unfortunately there is a bit of poking around in the code to get exactly what you need, but we are working on the Dev Guide to improve it for the next release. I had to do a bit of hacking around to do the Zenoss/Deki mashup, it's not as nice as it should be. http://www.zenoss.com/community/docs/
If you're interested, I can put you in contact with the developer who's working on reworking the Dev Guide, we're always open for feedback.
