I have a single server that has probably 20 or so name-based apache virtual hosts. I'd like to do a simple regexp check on a page for these hosts to verify that they are up.
My problem is that Zenoss doesn't seem to allow multiple devices to share the same IP. My work around was to create a device entry for the real host, create a HTTPMonitor performance template, create a DataSource for each one of the virtual hosts -- changing the hostname for each DataSource but keeping the IP the same. These was a huge hassle, took about an hour to do, and it forced me to not use the wonderful templating system that Zenoss provides. Has anyone come up with a better solution to monitor name-based virtual hosts? It would be so nice if I could use the same template over and over for each vhost, that way I wouldn't have to customize each DataSource.
