I have written a 50-page paper that considers different ways for Zenoss to
monitor processes, including SNMP, ssh and Zenoss's zenprocess daemon.

Part of the reason was my inability to get reliable results from zenprocess
(discussed in several appends here). Partly it was to understand the different
"plugin" options for Zenoss - Nagios plugins and Zenoss plugins; partly to
explore the possibilities of the net-snmp agent further.

With Zenoss 2.4, I believe the ability for Zenoss to run remote commands using
ssh will be strengthened so this paper attempts to capture what is currently
available with 2.3.3 and the paper will be updated when 2.4 becomes generally
available.

I have also included information on incorporating these methods with Zenoss
events and Zenoss performance data templates. Lots of examples and screenshots.

The paper is available under my own page at

Jane
