The ability to model and monitor everything remotely with SSH is in
Blue Crab, but there's not a whole lot of ZenPacks written to exploit
this yet. There is a basic LinuxMonitor ZenPack in Core that provides
examples for modeling of a device and getting those modeled components
monitored. Unlike SNMP, there is not a whole lot of standardization
about how and what to monitor. To this end we've written
documentation for writing custom SSH-based ZenPacks so we can build up
a wide variety of community-based solutions.

How to Create an SSH ZenPack:
http://community.zenoss.org/trac-zenpacks/wiki/SshZenpack
How To Add a Test to an SSH Monitoring Zenpack:
http://community.zenoss.org/trac-zenpacks/wiki/HowToAddSshTest

Hopefully once the ball starts rolling on these we'll have users
contributing things like Linux distro-specific solutions, the BSDs,
commercial Unixes and anything else that may be accessible via SSH.

Thanks,
Matt Ray
