That makes sense.  I ended up seeing all sorts of problems all over the place 
and went back to 2.3.3.  I will try the upgrade again on another box and see if 
that solves the problem.  I would assume the steps are this (though I don't see 
them in the docs anywhere):

service zenoss stop
yum update zenoss
service zenoss start
yum update zenoss-core-zenpacks

If you are using RPMs (x86_64 version):

service zenoss stop
yum localinstall zenoss-2.4.0.el5.x86_64.rpm
service zenoss start
yum localinstall zenoss-core-zenpacks-2.4.0.el5.x86_64.rpm
