We believe we fixed the coordinate issue with Google Maps in 2.4.

The original author of the OpenLayersMaps portlet said he wrote it  
because there was poor coverage of his location with Google Maps  
(Bulgaria I believe).  That said, I think the advantages for  
OpenLayerMaps would be
1) possibly configuring to run behind the firewall, since their data  
is freely available.  I don't know how you'd set this up, but it seems  
feasible at least.
2) no dependence on 2 external entities to provide your mapping.   
There have been some folks that don't care for the dependence on  
Zenoss Inc. to cover the Google licensing.  OpenLayersMap removes both  
Zenoss Inc. and Google from the equation.

I'm more than happy to post any documentation or ZenPacks this if you  
get it working, Google Maps work well for us but these are the 2  
limitations I'm aware of.
