By default, zenoss monitors whether or not it can connect to monitored server's smtp port. This floods /var/log/maillog on monitored systems with the following (one per minute): May 11 12:26:43 mailserver sendmail[8103]: n4BGQhU9008103: zenossserver [192.168.1.100] did not issue MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN during connection to MTA
Rather than disable the smtp monitor, for now I have now changed the "Send String" to "MAIL FROM zenoss" in zenoss's smtp configuration. This is obviously a syntax error, but allows us to continue monitoring the smtp service without flooding syslog. Is this expected with the default syslog setup? What is the community doing and is there a Best Practice I've missed? Or should I submit a bug? -- James Pulver Information Technology Area Supervisor LEPP Computer Group Cornell University _______________________________________________ zenoss-users mailing list [email protected] http://lists.zenoss.org/mailman/listinfo/zenoss-users
