We've installed Cacti on a different machine for security reason. This machine runs Cacti on Apache and runs as front-end to our customers. To be able to use the Zenoss RRDs I've set up a NFS connection from the webserver to the to RRD location on the monitor server.
By the way, as an alternative I've also experimented with generating PNG files from the RRDs by running a .sh script which runs within a CRON job.
